This week - OpenAI releases GPT-4; Google rolls out AI chatbots to Gmail and Docs; a mice with two fathers; open-source LLMs that can run on Macbooks and RaspberryPis; and more!
The whole firing of the ethics team at Microsoft leaves me thinking,(without any knowledge of these people's work or credentials) were they just not doing their jobs properly or according to upper management 's desires or are actually ideas of AI safety such a hinderance to the bottom line that just getting rid of them is the best option. I remember when Google fired Timnit Gebru and it was also somewhat controversial. And IDK it leaves me thinking about how maybe the role of companies as profit driven entities and not as stewards of our safety is ok, but that more focus regarding AI safety sadly will depend on institutions, regulators and policymakers... which doesn't seem like an optimistic scenario regarding the potential risks of AGIs coming in the near ( or not-so-near) future.
